Christmas Carols Concert 2022

This year, on January 23rd we met at the Carols Concert of our School in the beautiful, historic Szustra Palace, where the heart of Warsaw’s musical tradition has been beating for years. The greatest Polish musicians have performed in this Palace. The teachers of our School, including the Director of Unisono Music Academy Zofia Zwolińska, have also given concerts there. The Palace is the seat of the highly distinguished Warsaw Music Society.

The concert was started by little Chuchu from Zofia Zwolinska’s violin class, who played the song “Deszczyk” (“Rain”) from the violin pedagogy repertoire. Four-year-old Fredy Yu from Yulia Lewiuk’s piano class played the carol “Jesus Christ” arranged by Piotr Dylewski.

Classes performances

Julia Lewiuk’s class was also represented by:

  • Zosia Belgy, in whose performance we heard Allegro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
  • Helenka performed “Walczyk na niepogodę” by Agnieszka Lasko and a duet with Professor “Jingle Bells” by James Pirpoint
  • Eliza Angevin performed “When Christ is Born” and the American pastorale “First Star”
  • Karolina Kowalska played a piece by Johann Friedrich Burgmuller “La Chevaleresqe”

Sisters Olga and Marianna Pogorzelski were guest performers. Olga performed a piece by Robert Schumann “First Worry” and then a piece by Mikołaj Leontonowicz “Szczedryk” for four hands with her sister.

From Hanna Malaszek’s piano class performed:

  • Kuba Grzyb, who played the carol “They came to Bethlehem”
  • Emil Koziel whose performance we heard “Jingle Bells” by James Pierpoint

Artur Chmara’s piano class:

  • Szymon Szysz, who played Dance from Dmitri Shostakovich’s Ballet Suite No. 1

Piotr Nermer violin class:

  • Shin Zen, who played Joseph Haydn’s “Song

From the violin class of Zofia Zwolinska performed:

  • Ewa Wojciechowska and Jadzia Wichary, who played a miniature from the violin pedagogy repertoire “Rain”
  • Antonika Rytel performed a miniature “The Hunter” from the repertoire of Russian violin pedagogy
  • Lang Hanyu played third movement of Concertina by Grażyna Bacewicz
  • Emily Chandler performed Sarabande in G minor and Gavotte by Arcangelo Corelli.

Special guest during Carols Concert

Special guest Ella Bai closed concert. She took her first violin steps at our school under the guidance of Zofia Zwolinska, and is now developing her skills at the Secondary School in Miodowa Street. Her teacher is the excellent violinist Joanna Okoń, also a former pupil of Zofia Zwolińska’s former student. In Ella Bai’s performance we heard expressive Sarabanda and Gigue from Partita No. 2 in D minor by Johann Sebastian Bach, and the first movement of Violin Concerto in D major c.v. 218 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, played with light-hearted panache, characteristic of this composer’s virtuoso performance.

Ella was accompanied at the piano by Andrzej Guz, an excellent teacher of chamber music at the Secondary Music School in Miodowa Street. Our violin soloists were accompanied by Hanna Malaszka and Artur Chmara. Liza Pietraga and violin class professor Piotr Nermer announced student performances.

At the end of the musical meeting in Szustra Palace, the Headmaster of the School invited all the students on stage and congratulated them on their successful performances.

Zofia Zwolińska thanked all the teachers for their fruitful work with the students, as well as the parents and grandparents for watching over their children while working on the instruments at home and invited them to the next concert, the Spring Concert, which will take place on April 10 in the same place.
